If your baby requires specialized care after birth, you can be confident he or she will be cared for by the expert, compassionate team in our neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). You are encouraged to visit your baby in the NICU as often as you’d like.
Breastfeeding support
Wesley follows the Ten Steps to Successful Breastfeeding guidelines that offer mothers information, confidence and the skills needed to successfully initiate and continue breastfeeding their babies.
We also offer the WesleyCare Breastfeeding Clinic. At this daily walk-in clinic, consultants work with moms in group settings to resolve breastfeeding challenges and answer questions.

Newborn photography
If you want pictures of your baby’s birth, you may bring a camera and have your support person photograph or videotape your labor and delivery experience. However, we also offer professional newborn photography through our partnership with Baby Bloom Photography. You will receive information about photography services when you are admitted.
Taking your newborn home
Wesley prepares you to go home with your new baby throughout your hospital stay. Before you and your baby go home, orders from your doctor and your baby’s doctor are needed.
Your baby will need a blood test, required by the state, which screens for certain conditions, including phenylketonuria (PKU), hypothyroidism, galactosemia and hemoglobinopathies.
Other things that need to be completed before you leave include:
- Birth registration
- Plans to visit your doctor and your baby’s doctor
- Instructions on care of mother and baby
- Arrangements for a home visit, if applicable
- Car seat installed in your car
Donor breastmilk program
If you have extra breast milk, you may consider participating in Wesley’s Donor Milk Program. The donated milk is sent to Prolacta® Bioscience, where it is tested, pasteurized and made into 100 percent human milk nutritional products that are formulated to meet the needs of critically ill and premature infants in Wesley Healthcare's NICU.
