Blood cancer

Blood cancer occurs when stem cells in bone marrow make uncontrolled, abnormal blood cells. They keep your blood from fighting infections and slows excessive bleeding control. We have many treatments, such as chemo, radiation therapy and stem cell transplants.

Types of blood cancer

Blood cancer refers to cancers that affect the blood cells, decreasing your body’s ability to fight infection. Wesley has the technology, expertise and staff to treat all three main types of blood cancer:

  • Leukemia: This cancer occurs when normal white blood cells start to change and multiply uncontrollably.
  • Lymphoma: This cancer occurs when cancer develops in the lymphatic system, the vessels that carry white blood cells from the body’s tissues to the blood.
  • Multiple myelomas: This cancer occurs in blood plasma cells within the bone marrow.

Within these three main categories are various types of blood cancer. Our dedicated blood cancer team in Wichita provides compassionate, expert treatments to patients with blood disorders and cancers, including:

  • Hodgkin lymphoma
  • Non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL)
  • Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL)
  • Chronic myeloid leukemia (CML)
  • Aplastic anemia
  • Autoimmune diseases

  • Sickle cell disease
  • Germ cell tumors

Chemotherapy

Also called chemo, this treatment uses drugs to kill or slow the growth of cancer cells.

Radiation
