What is a high-risk-pregnancy?

Sometimes, you know early on that your pregnancy is high-risk, and your doctor can provide specialized prenatal care. However, it’s also possible that unexpected complications may arise during labor and delivery.

Our maternal-fetal medicine specialists in Wichita are experienced in managing the full range of high-risk pregnancy conditions, from women with chronic health conditions to women facing urgent, life-threatening complications.

Our maternal-fetal specialists can help with high-risk pregnancy conditions, such as:

  • Health conditions that exist before pregnancy, including high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease and autoimmune disorders
  • Cervical incompetence
  • Previous pregnancy complications, such as pre-term labor or preeclampsia
  • Fetal-congenital anomalies or genetic disorders
  • Expecting multiple births
  • Advanced maternal age

To help screen for potential pregnancy complications, Wesley Healthcare offers:

Critical care for newborns

Infants who have complications due to premature birth, infections or health challenges are admitted to our Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). Wesley’s Level III NICU in Wichita is the largest in the region and provides board-certified neonatologists and hospitalists on campus 24/7.
