It is often the only hope for thousands of people suffering from organ failure, or in desperate need of corneas, skin, bone and other tissue. More than 60,000 Americans await life-saving organs. Tragically, the need for donated organs and tissue is greater than the supply, leading to unnecessary deaths.

You can save lives by deciding to be an organ and tissue donor.

Sharing the decision to be an organ and tissue donor with your family is as important as making the donation itself. At the time of your death, your family will be asked about donation. You may take the burden off of your family to make this decision by signing your driver’s license for donation or by registering on organ registry which serves as legal advance directive, letting your family and hospital legal representation know of your wishes. Sharing this decision with your family now will prevent confusion or uncertainty about your wishes.

At Wesley Healthcare, patients receive the same quality of care regardless of their wishes relating to donation. The physician involved in the patient's care is not allowed to participate in the donation procedure. If you do decide to become a donor, your family will receive a follow-up letter detailing how the donations were used to help save lives.
