WICHITA – Wesley Medical Center is beginning a $3 million renovation of the Wesley BirthCare Center, the latest in several recent hospital investments in women’s and children’s services.
The 22,500-square-foot construction project includes renovated patient and labor rooms, new furniture and reception area aesthetics, upgraded HVAC systems and additional security enhancements.
This is one of several recent investments Wesley has made in new and upgraded facilities. The hospital completed a $36 million renovation of its women’s hospital last year and recently announced plans to build a $28 million dedicated children’s hospital.
“Wesley has long been the regional leader in caring for women, children and families,” said Bill Voloch, Wesley’s interim president and CEO. “The Wesley BirthCare Center is a key aspect of those services. Moms want and deserve that comfortable, spa-like environment, and these upgrades will ensure they continue to receive it.”
The BirthCare Center renovations will be completed in three phases, allowing for closing of a maximum of eight of its 20 patient beds at a time. The project will be completed in spring of 2016.
Since opening nearly 20 years ago, the Wesley BirthCare Center has provided area families all the amenities of home – each suite includes a family room and a private bathroom in addition to the mother’s room. The center also features two kitchens and a playroom for siblings.
Between the Wesley BirthCare Center and its main campus, Wesley delivers more than 6,000 babies each year – more than any hospital in a 13-state region.
