WICHITA – Galichia Heart Hospital has earned a national Excellence in Patient Care award for a second consecutive year from the healthcare performance improvement firm Studer Group®, a Huron Healthcare solution. Galichia is receiving the award for its outstanding performance in emergency department patient care last year.
The Excellence in Patient Care awards are given to select organizations coached by Studer Group. To be eligible for an award, an organization must demonstrate outstanding performance in patient care. Galichia was selected based its overall emergency department patient satisfaction scores, which were in the 90th percentile nationally.
“We work very hard to communicate well and keep our patients informed of what they can expect throughout their visit,” said Brandy Stefonek, Galichia’s ER manager. “That communication decreases their anxiety and increases their follow through of home care of instructions. Great customer service has been a big part of our patient-focused care that keeps our patients coming back when they need us.”
Galichia was also acknowledged for keeping its average ER wait times to see a physician under 20 minutes despite a significant increase in patient volume. Emergency department visits have increased almost 20 percent over last year, but the hospital consistently keeps the number of patients who leave without being seen below .2 percent – and often at zero.
“Our emergency room is one of the best and busiest in the region, and we want our patients to be seen in a timely matter while receiving the best medical treatment,” Stefonek said. “We continually work to improve our quality, service and patient safety scores.”
Galichia’s emergency department is an accredited chest pain center with emergency services available 24/7. Average wait times for Galichia and an online check-in can be found at www.wesleyercheckin.com. For more information about Galichia and its services, please visit www.wesleymc.com.
