WICHITA –The Wesley EmergencyCare Network has named local physician Dr. Robert Stangl, MD, its new medical director, providing leadership and clinical expertise for the region’s most comprehensive emergency room network.

“It’s great to be part of a team that is making so many positive advancements in emergency care services for our community,” Dr. Stangl said. “I am honored to have the opportunity to lead such a highly respected, experienced group of providers and clinical professionals.”

Dr. Stangl has been in practice for more than 25 years and most recently served as the emergency department medical director for Via Christi Health. He received his medical degree from the University of Iowa College of Medicine and completed his internal medicine residency at Virginia Commonwealth University Health System. He is board-certified in both internal medicine and emergency medicine.

The Wesley EmergencyCare Network’s emergency rooms had more than 120,000 visits last year. The network recently expanded services at its Wesley Medical Center campus with the addition of a Ready Care area that offers immediate care for minor injuries. The network also recently began publically posting its average ER wait times for all four of its ERs.

“Dr. Stangl will be a tremendous asset to our emergency network,” said Dr. Francie Ekengren, Wesley Medical Center’s chief medical officer and a practicing ER physician. “With his leadership, we look forward to better serving our patients – keeping our average wait times and lengths of stay low, while improving the patient experience through dedication to safety and quality care.”

The Wesley EmergencyCare Network has four emergency room locations, including the Wesley Medical Center main ER, Galichia ER, Wesley West ER and the region’s only dedicated pediatric ER. Wait times for all locations are available on Wesley’s ER check-in mobile phone app, which also allows patients to start their check-in process prior to arrival at any of Wesley’s ER locations. Patients can also check-in and access wait times by visiting Wesley ER Check-in.

Dr. Stangl will begin his new position with Wesley in June.
