Wesley’s Joint Replacement Center is committed to keeping its patients informed, educated and supported every step of the way – from the day you and your doctor decide it’s time to have surgery.
We have a pre-op class, a prepared set of educational handouts and PowerPoint slide presentation to help make you feel more comfortable with the surgical and recovery process at Wesley. Our pre-surgical education and support for our patients starts on the day you decide to have surgery and continues throughout your stay and after you go home. We have a dedicated orthopedic clinical coordinator to help you understand and manage this process – your go-to resource for any question from day one.
Surgery can be an intimidating concept for some patients, and our highly trained orthopedic surgeons, nurses and therapists want to make sure your stay and recovery is as comfortable as possible.
Most people feel more comfortable about surgery if they know what to expect. To provide you with information in advance of your scheduled surgery and to answer any questions you might have, we invite you to our 90-minute informational class. You should attend the class several weeks or days before surgery. At the class, hospital staff will explain to you what you can expect while you are in the hospital and after discharge. During the pre-op class, you will learn about:
- Review what happens during surgery
- Talk about how to prepare for surgery
- Discuss your surgery day, from arrival to discharge
- Review what to expect as you recover
- Learn about exercises and rehabilitation with our physical and occupational therapists
The classes are held the second Tuesday of the month from 10 – 11:30 a.m. in the conference room at Wesley Birth Care Suites, 3222 E. Murdock St. The classes are also held the fourth Tuesday of every month from 4 – 5:30 p.m. in the Cessna Conference room at Wesley Medical Center. If you plan to come to a class, please let us know by calling (316) 962-2730.
If you can’t make it to a live class, we also offer a pre-op PowerPoint presentation on demand to watch anytime, anywhere. Request our Education Guide for more information.
