Exploration Place provides STEM activities twice a month for Wesley pediatric patients and their siblings thanks to the Wesley Children’s Foundation. Classes are held in Wesley’s pediatric playroom on the Pediatric Unit. The classes occur every other week at either 11 a.m. or 3 p.m. Participants range in age from four to 12 years. The activities are based on current Exploration Place exhibits and have included activities such as assembling rockets, building circuit boards, making “elephant toothpaste,” conducting liquid nitrogen experiments and constructing “makey mackey boards” – which involves using wires and Play-Doh to make a circuit to a laptop piano. Every class time is a new activity!
