Individuals Struggling with Knee or Hip Pain Can Now Measure Pain,
Learn Treatment Options from Homes
WICHITA – Wesley Medical Center has launched a new online tool that will not only provide information on Wesley’s comprehensive array of total joint services, but also allows users to tap into a pain assessment tool and educational information from the comfort of their homes.
The tool, found at wesleyorthoscore.com, asks participants to take a Lower Extremity Functional Scale questionnaire to measure pain and mobility. The assessment can be retaken over time to measure trends, and people can then discuss those results with their physicians.
“People tend to downplay their pain when talking to their doctors,” said Nick Adams, Wesley’s vice president of marketing and public relations. “This online tool gives patients an opportunity to bring an objective assessment to their physicians to have a candid discussion on what to do next.”
The new online tool also provides education on the causes of and treatment options for joint pain over the course of several videos. In the past, potential total knee or total hip surgery patients were asked to attend an in-person seminar to receive this information.
The live seminars will still be available, but for a variety of reasons, some people who want and need this information often can’t attend.
“We realized there was an audience of people who had hip and knee pain and were not able to attend these seminars,” Adams said. “Some live several hours away, and some simply have too much pain to leave their homes. We knew we needed an opportunity for them to access this information online.”
Wesley Medical Center’s Total Joint Replacement Program, which is also available at Galichia Heart Hospital, is a designated Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas Blue Distinction Center+, a UnitedHealth Premium® Total Joint Replacement Specialty Center and is certified by The Joint Commission.
