WICHITA – There are more than 7 million stroke survivors in the United States, and recovery after a stroke is often a lifelong process for these individuals and their caregivers. Being equipped with information about recovery-related treatments and coping strategies can help with the healing process.
Joint Commission-certified stroke centers Wesley Medical Center and Wesley Rehabilitation Hospital are offering a free Lifelong Education & Advocacy Program (LEAP) for stroke survivors, caregivers and family members. Participants will learn the latest in stroke rehabilitation, nutrition and drug therapies, and they will develop strategies for dealing with depression and maintaining self-esteem.

Lifelong Education and Advocacy Program (LEAP) is a program of the National Stroke Association developed for hospitals and rehabilitation facilities to use in educating their stroke survivors and caregivers about the medical issues of stroke. Founded in 1984, the national association is the only organization in the U.S. that focuses 100 percent of its efforts on stroke.
