WICHITA – Wesley Medical Center has been named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in America.
Wesley is one of 1,224 hospitals in the United States to achieve the 2013 Top Performer distinction and one of just 314 hospitals to achieve the Top Performer distinction for the past three consecutive years.
“We understand what matters most to patients at Wesley is the quality and safety of the care they receive. That’s why we have made it a top priority to improve positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes,” said Hugh Tappan, Wesley’s president and CEO. “Wesley is proud to be named a Top Performer as it recognizes the knowledge, teamwork and dedication of our entire hospital staff.”
Wesley was recognized as part of The Joint Commission’s 2014 annual report “America’s Hospitals: Improving Quality and Safety,” for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care and children’s asthma.
To be recognized as a top performer, a hospital must achieve several quality benchmarks across several different measures. Each measure represents an evidence-based practice – examples include giving aspirin at arrival for heart attack patients, giving antibiotics one hour before surgery or providing a home management plan for care for children with asthma. The ratings are based on a sum of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2013 calendar year.
“Delivering the right treatment in the right way at the right time is a cornerstone of high-quality health care. I commend the efforts of Wesley for their excellent performance on the use of evidence-based interventions,” said Mark Chassin, MD, president and CEO of the Joint Commission.
