Family Life Education classes

Classes are held at the following locations: Wesley BirthCare Center at the northeast corner of Hillside and Murdock streets; Wesley West Emergency and Diagnostic Center at 8714 W. 13th St.; and Koch Learning Center at Wesley Medical Center, 550 N.   • “Babysitting for Beginners”: a single one-day class for youth ages 11-15 to learn to care for children of all ages, CPR training is included

Cost: $40, includes lunch

BirthCare Center: Saturday, Jan. 17, 9:00am to 4:00pm

  • “Big Kids and Babies”: one 90-minute session of activities for children ages 3-6 to help prepare them to welcome a new baby, tour included

Cost: $10 per child

BirthCare Center: Saturday, Jan. 10, 10-11:30 a.m.

  • “Breastfeeding”: two two-hour classes or one three-hour class to learn the advantages of breastfeeding

Cost: $25 per person or couple

Birthcare Center: Mondays, Feb. 9 and 16. Tuesdays, Jan. 13 and 20, 7:00-9:00pm

Wesley West: Mondays, Jan. 5 and 12, 7:00-9:00pm

  • “Car Seat Safety”: one two-hour class to learn how to select a safe car seat and use it effectively

Cost: free of charge

BirthCare Center: Tuesday, Jan. 27, 7:00-9:00pm

  • “Calming Your Baby”: one two-hour class on how to identify your baby’s needs to ease pressure and stress

Cost: $15 per person or couple

BirthCare Center: Wednesday, Jan. 14, 7:00-9:00pm

  • Car Seat Checks: your infant or child’s car seat will be checked for safety and proper installation by Wesley’s certified car seat specialists. Call 962-2105 for dates, times and location of car seat checks.

  • “Caring for Your Baby”: two two-hour classes or one three-hour class providing information about bathing, diapering, feeding, safety, child development, health and other practical information

  • “Cesarean Birth”: one two-hour class to help prepare and schedule cesarean birth and tour the hospital

  • “Childbirth Preparation”: six two-hour classes or two six-hour Saturday classes for expectant mothers and their partners to learn skills and information about birth

  • “Childbirth Preparation- Westside”: five two-hour Wednesday classes for expectant mothers and their partners to learn skills and information about birth

  • “Mini Childbirth Preparation”: four two-hour classes for expectant mothers and their partners to learn skills and information about birth (condensed version of the six week class)

  • “Grandparents to Be”: one two-hour class for future grandparents to learn about current birth practices and changes in feeding and newborn care

  • “Miraculous Multiples”: class for couples expecting twins or more to prepare them for the pregnancy, nutritional demands and parenting more than one infant

  • “Girl to Woman”: one two-hour class for girls, ages 9-12, and their daughter that addresses menstruation and other physical and emotional changes of puberty

Cost: $15 per mother/daughter couple

  • “Off to a Good Start”: one two-hour class providing information on prenatal health; recommended to be taken 20 weeks before gestation

Cost: $15 per person or couple

  • “Postpartum Care”: two two-hour classes about what to expect after birth

Cost: $25 per person or couple

  • “Potty Time”: one two-hour class to learn about toilet training, including how to recognize signs of readiness, incentive ideas and realistic expectations

  • “VBAC” (vaginal birth after cesarean): one two-hour class about how to enhance your birth experience

Awareness”, Diabetes educators from Wesley will discuss the financial impact of diabetes, warning signs and symptoms, prevention, risk reduction and basic nutrition as well as current treatments.

    • Friday, Feb. 27, 11:30am to 1pm for $8, Central Community Church, 6100 West Maple St.; “Keeping Your Heart Healthy”, Dr. Ravi Bajaj is back by popular demand. Dr. Bajaj will share practical tips to keep your heart healthy. You won’t want to miss our annual speaker for American Heart Month
