WICHITA – Galichia Heart Hospital, a campus of Wesley Medical Center, has been awarded another three-year term of accreditation in computed tomography – or CT – scanning from the American College of Radiology (ACR). CT scans, sometimes called CAT scans, are a non-invasive medical test that helps physicians diagnose and tailor treatments for various medical conditions. Galichia’s CT program has been accredited by the ACR since 2008.
To earn ACR accreditation, a CT program must submit clinical and phantom images, dose measurements and scanning protocols for review. This is the third time Galichia has earned the three-year accreditation.
“The imaging staff worked extremely hard and put in a great deal of time to gain this re-accreditation,” said Fred Mueller, Galichia’s CT manager. “But it tells our patients that we are running a top notch-CT department.”
The ACR gold seal of accreditation is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, radiation safety, personnel qualifications, adequacy of the facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are reviewed.
“Earning this accreditation means our CT images for pediatric and adult patients meet the highest standards for quality and patient safety,” said Brad Bowren, Wesley’s director of imaging. “Our patients deserve this high-level of care.”
Galichia’s CT department is accredited in adult, pediatric, head, neck, chest and cardiac CT imaging.
