Play is the "work" of childhood and helps children develop physically, mentally, and socially. It also helps children relax and be more comfortable while in the hospital. Located in the Pediatric Unit, the large, sunny and clean playroom was designed by Wesley's child-life specialists to help lessen children's stress and to engage them in therapeutic play activities. Toys and games for children of a variety of ages are provided. Patients are encouraged to use the playroom if they are well enough. Brothers and sisters are welcome to use the room when playing with patients.
All children in the playroom must be accompanied by an adult. For the protection of all the children, individuals with a fever or other infectious process (vomiting, diarrhea) are not allowed in the playroom. Used toys should be placed in the dirty-toy bin so they can be cleaned.
