Since 2010, Wesley Medical Center and Wesley Woodlawn Hospital and ER have performed more than 3,000 knee and hip replacement procedures for the Wichita community. Our doctors and orthopedic surgeons believe in developing lasting relationships with patients and their families to ensure the best possible patient outcomes. As part of our orthopedic care program, we believe keeping patients informed and involved in their healthcare before, during and after a knee or hip replacement surgery helps ensure patient satisfaction.
Wesley Medical Center has a comprehensive program, the Rapid Recovery Program, designed for the care and rehabilitation of total joint replacement patients. For patients who have undergone total hip or total knee surgery, the Rapid Recovery Program can help get you back to doing the activities you love faster and with greater satisfaction.
Personalizing your treatment plan
Surgery can be an intimidating concept for some patients, and our highly-trained orthopedic surgeons, nurses and therapists want to make sure your stay and recovery is as comfortable as possible.
Most people feel more comfortable about surgery if they know what to expect. To provide you with information in advance of your scheduled surgery and to answer any questions you might have, we invite you to our 90-minute informational class. You should attend the class several weeks or days before surgery. At the class, hospital staff will explain to you what you can expect while you are in the hospital and after discharge.
- Preparation for surgery
- Review of equipment you will find in your hospital room after surgery
- Details about what to expect each day while you are in the hospital
- Pain control
- What to expect when you go home
- Rehabilitation to help you heal quickly
The classes are held on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month. The second Tuesday class is provided from 10 - 11:30 a.m. and the fourth Tuesday class is provided from 4:00 - 5:30 p.m. The classes are held in Wesley's Cessna conference room. If you plan to come to a class, please let us know by calling (316) 962-2730.
Knee and hip replacement nurse navigators – your trusted guides
After scheduling your joint replacement surgery, an orthopedic nurse navigator will be assigned to you to provide care and guidance before, during and after your surgery. Your navigator’s role is to help you understand your care from the moment of diagnosis to treatment and recovery.
Your navigator will work directly with you to serve as a personal guide to joint replacement surgery. The navigator will visit you throughout your stay and make check-in phone calls when you get home.
