Wesley has a special unit for gynecology and gynecological cancer patients on the fourth floor of Wesley's Women's Hospital. Among these patients are those who have experienced radical surgery, radiation implants, chemotherapy and treatment complications. This unit also cares for pregnant women who require hospitalization before their baby is born.
The unit's nurses and other specially trained and experienced staff provide emotional support and education as well as care for the patients' health needs. The nursing staff won the Quality of Life Award given by the Wichita Medical Research and Education Foundation for their outstanding nursing care and ongoing support to patients and their families.
Families are welcome in the unit, and a family member may stay overnight with the patient in a private room. Small children are welcome to visit if they are accompanied by an adult other than the patient.
Many of the surgeries, including hysterectomies and myomectomy, are performed by our highly trained surgeons using the da Vinci surgical system®. This minimally invasive surgical instrument uses small incisions which reduces the amount of scarring and recovery time for patients.
We understand that surgery can be an uncertain time for you. Our staff is here as a resource to answer any questions you may have before and after your operation. No matter what procedure you are having, our gynecology surgeons, gynecologists and nursing staff will treat you with the respect and privacy you deserve while providing you the highest level of care.
