WICHITA, Kansas – Wesley Medical Center has made blood pressure testing more accessible by sponsoring a permanent Heart Check Center blood pressure testing kiosk at Towne East Square Mall. The kiosk, the first of its kind in Wichita, is located outside of the first floor entrance to Von Maur, adjacent to the food court.
Since its introduction in February, Wesley’s Heart Check Center has averaged nearly 100 tests daily making it the sixteenth most used Heart Check Center in the nation.
The kiosk is free to use, requires no appointment and is not invasive. The user simply places his or her arm in the testing cuff and the Heart Check Center provides a clear and accurate blood pressure reading in just two minutes.
“We have had an outstanding response,” said Paul Petitte, Wesley Medical Center’s vice president of marketing and public relations. “We are excited to be able to bring this valuable and unique service to so many Wichitans.”
Heart disease is responsible for more than 25 percent of deaths in Kansas. High blood pressure lacks noticeable symptoms, often labeling it the ‘silent killer,’ according to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment. The only way to determine high blood pressure is to have it checked.
“Knowing your health numbers and taking control are vital steps in improving your overall health status. Keeping blood pressure in a safe range is one of the key health values individuals should monitor,” noted Executive Director of the American Heart Association, Steve Gillies. “This Heart Check Center is not only easy to use, but it can save lives. “
For those who are concerned about their blood pressure reading, information on how Wesley Medical Center can help can be found at the kiosk or at facebook.com/wesleyhearthealth.
