WICHITA – Wesley Medical Center has earned The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Chest Pain Certification. The Gold Seal of Approval is a symbol of quality that reflects an organization’s commitment to providing safe and effective patient care.

“We are so proud to receive this certification from The Joint Commission,” said Cheryl Donelan, Wesley Healthcare’s cardiology services director. “We passed with no recommendations for improvement and the teamwork and collaboration of staff was exemplary.”

Wesley underwent a rigorous on-site review where Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with national disease-specific standards as well as chest pain specific requirements. Clinical practice guidelines and performance measures also were assessed.

Certification requirements for a chest pain program address three areas:

  • Compliance with consensus-based national standards;
  • Effective and consistent use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care; and
  • An organized approach to performance measurements and improvement activities.

Chest pain programs that successfully demonstrate compliance in all three areas are awarded certification for a two-year period. At the end of the first year, the organization is required to attest to its continued compliance with standards and provide evidence of performance improvement activities.

“Wesley has thoroughly demonstrated a high level of care for patients with chest pain,” said Wendi J. Roberts, RN, executive director, Certification Programs, The Joint Commission. “We commend Wesley for continuing to be a leader in chest pain care, potentially providing a higher standard of service for chest pain patients in its community.”
