WESLEY EARNS “TOP PERFORMER ON KEY QUALITY MEASURES®” DESIGNATION

Hospital is one of 1,099 hospitals in the U.S. earning the distinction for

accountability measures from The Joint Commission

WICHITA, Kan. – Wesley Medical Center has been named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures® by The Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of healthcare organizations in America.

Wesley is one of 1,099 hospitals in the U.S. earning the distinction for attaining and sustaining excellence in accountability measure performance. The hospital received recognition for its achievement in quality measures for heart attack, heart failure, pneumonia, surgical care and children’s asthma.

“We understand that what matters most to patients at Wesley is safe, effective care. That’s why our organization has made a commitment to positive patient outcomes through evidence-based care processes,” said Hugh Tappan, Wesley’s president and CEO. “This recognition is a nice validation of the tireless effort made daily by our physicians and staff to provide the very best in patient care.”

To be recognized as a top performer, a hospital must achieve several quality benchmarks across several different measures. Each measure represents an evidence-based practice – examples include giving aspirin at arrival for heart attack patients, giving antibiotics one hour before surgery or providing a home management plan for care for children with asthma. The ratings are based on a sum of accountability measure data reported to The Joint Commission during the 2012 calendar year.

“Wesley has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to quality improvement and they should be proud of their achievement,” said Mark R. Chassin, MD, FACP, MPP, MPH, president and CEO, The Joint Commission. “We have much to celebrate this year with almost half our accredited hospitals attaining or nearly attainting the Top Performer distinction. This truly shows that we are approaching a tipping point in hospital quality performance that will directly contribute to better health outcomes for patients.”
