WICHITA, Kansas – Wesley Medical Center will be celebrating its 16thannual Senior 5K Walk/Run tomorrow May 23 at Botanica The Wichita Gardens. Come rain or shine, everyone age 40 and better is invited to participate in the friendly competition through Sim Park with the 5K run starting at 6:30 pm and the 5K run starting at 6:35 pm. After the race, enjoy entertainment, great food and giveaways.
“This is a one of a kind event because it offers a race exclusive for those to compete against others closer to their own age,” said Hugh Tappan, Wesley President and CEO. “It is not unusual to have participants in their 80’s and even 90’s at the Wesley Senior 5K.”
The fast, certified course goes through Sim Park and along the Arkansas River, beginning and ending at Botanic, 701 N. Amidon. Run Wichita is coordinating the Senior 5K, making it an official Run Wichita event. The age groupings are in five-year increments from age 40 to 100. Medals are awarded to the top 3 participants in each category. The race will be using the BIBTAG chip timing system for the finish of the races. Race results will be available by May 25 at www.runwichita.org.
The registration fee is $20 through May 22 (Wesley Friends program members receive a $3 discount) and $25 for everyone on race day. Register at the Wesley Friends office located at 550 N. Hillside or at the event starting at 5:00 pm. Walk/Run packets are available for pick up at the Wesley Friends office until 4:30 pm on May 22 and until 12:00 pm on May 23. Packets will also be available at the race beginning at 5:00 pm. The race traditionally has had over 400 registrants participate.
