Wesley Medical Center has started a new SANE /SART program to help sexual assault victims. The program utilizes SANE — Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners — who are registered nurses specifically trained to provide a thorough assessment of patients, help prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections, collect forensic evidence, photo-document and diagram all injuries and connect patients to resources they may need once they leave the hospital.

Wesley Medical Center in partnership with The Kansas Healthcare Collaborative (KHC) for the third year in a row has participated in reporting their immunization practices. Survey results indicated an immunization rate for the 2011-2012 flu season of 97 percent participation, up 3 percent from last year’s survey. The statewide rate for seasonal flu immunization for 2011-2012, based on a survey where 100 percent of Kansas hospitals participated, was 83 percent; well above the national average of 67 percent.
